ABOUT this PROJECT – Afton 15

Afton 15 Farmhouse kitchen updated. This client had an original 1910 farmhouse that had many additions and was long overdue for an extensive kitchen remodeling. A cramped layout restricted the possibility of a spot to eat-in the kitchen daily and this home owner had great visions of the kids meeting around the kitchen table and either; eating, baking or doing the many crafts projects they enjoyed together.  In the end a modest four foot expansion achieved enough space to allow for a center island to meet all of their gathering needs and achieve a storage friendly baking center.

Features: Beautiful custom crafted prairie style white painted cabinets w/ eat-in center island, eco-friendly hand scraped engineered flooring, Baking center counter and storage, cook book and wine display on ends of the island, pots & pan drawers, silverware and spice drawers, criss-cross corner base storage cabinet, natural granite countertops and subway tile backsplash with feature tile at range, walk-in pantry.

ABOUT this PROJECT – Ottawa

St. Louis Park, Kitchen and bath remodel. A 1911 original farmhouse now surrounded by suburban homes has stood the test of time.  Our clients have lived in the home nearly 40 years, raised their family and were ready to treat themselves and their classic home to some much needed updates and refinements. As the clients sat with their Sawhorse designer she cautioned …”and I really like the color green!” An overloaded/stock piled but seldom traversed butler’s pantry was taken over and space added to a cramped kitchen space. The color request led to the marriage of True Value’s Jericho green as the base color for cabinetry with Luna Pearl countertops, beautiful crackled white subway backsplash tile, oil rubbed bronze hardware and light fixtures along with stainless steel appliances, all complement the green nicely. A movable naturally oiled butcher block prep island allows for grandkids to assist in the cooking and baking processes. The former butler’s pantry storage necessitated a beautifully arranged pantry wall with crackled glass for modest display and bookshelves for a few of client’s favorites. A main level master closet expansion allowed for the repurposing of a unique hardwood flooring into the kitchen that allowed the remodeling to be seamless and “green” for another definition.

Features: Full extension drawers and rollout accessories, all with “soft close” feature, makes the kitchen very user friendly. Custom Painted and Stained Cabinetry, Natural Granite countertops, porcelain tile backsplashes and seamlessly patched (w/ salvaged flooring) maple flooring.

ABOUT this PROJECT – Blackhawk

Eagan kitchen and bath remodel. An active family dictated updating a step down railing family room railing to a visually dynamic room divider that actually unifies the kitchen, dinette and family room spaces. Removal of soffits allowed for 96” full height cabinets that provided much needed storage for numerous kitchen items. The painted white prairie style cabinets, granite countertops and stainless steel appliance are complimented with a painted black island capable of seating the family for breakfast or an afternoon snack. The black painted room divider cabinet further accentuates the black and white theme and provides needed storage near the dinette table along with providing storage of needed entertainment beverages. The black painted cabinets responded so nicely in the kitchen/family room the client chose to carry this detail to an adjacent 1/2 bath. The correlation does not go unnoticed from guests.

Features: white painted prairie style cabinetry, granite countertops, engineered flooring, grey glass subway backsplash tiles.

ABOUT this PROJECT – Lakeland

Lakeland Township kitchen remodel. The main level had dated and disjointed finish materials along with worn kitchen cabinets in need of organization led our clients to call the cabinet designers at Sawhorse. Fundamental in the design solution, a hallway that led to the main level half bath really bisected the working space of the kitchen.  By rerouting the access to the bathroom a finely appointed beverage serving counter was allowed to fulfill these clients entertaining requirements.  Hickory flooring installed on the entire main level became a unifying theme for this rural home.  The entire main level of the home now has a warm feeling that correlates nicely to the wooded site.  Custom cabinetry fitting uniquely into a corner sink configuration, frames a window to the wooded lot and frequent humming bird visits. Once the cabinets were appointed with ergonomically friendly accessories the owners cooking experience changed their entertainment possibilities and everyone wants to gather at their home.

Features: Custom Red Oak cabinetry, Natural Granite countertops, stone and porcelain tile mix and hickory flooring – all finishes now compliment the wooded lot.

ABOUT this PROJECT – Western

St. Paul, Kitchen remodel.  A 1 1 /2 story cape cod style home in St. Paul had an extremely space starved kitchen, no place to enter from the detached garage and no place to eat in the kitchen space.  A very modest 6’ addition allowed this kitchen to transform into a space that has changed this client’s everyday living.  The 6’ addition allowed for a door from the back yard and newly completed deck to enter directly to a mudroom cubbie space.  Cherry storage cabinetry which match the kitchen offer ample daily storage and a discreet pair of doors open to phone recharging station and message center to keep up on this active families schedule.  The additional space allowed for the construction of an exquisitely designed eating nook with trestle table (also in matching cherry) that has incredible “pullout” accessible storage.  A nearly 10’ wide doorway was created between the expanded kitchen and the adjacent living room and an open feel main level is not out of place in this cape cod. An island that includes the gas cooktop also is not short on storage capacity at the ready.  Craftsman style detail abound in this kitchen with cherry flat panel doors, granite counters with porcelain back spalshes with natural stone accent tile coordinate the craftsman feel throughout the kitchen.

Features:  Full extension drawers and rollout accessories makes the kitchen ergonomically very user friendly.  Natural Granite countertops w/ porcelain and stone back splashes detailing look very handsome in this quant kitchen remodel.

ABOUT this PROJECT – Valley Creek

Afton, Kitchen remodel. Our clients built their dream home in 1978 and had all of the amenities; double ovens, DW, gas cooktop w/ grill on a center island with an overhead stainless steel ventilation system that handled all of their indoor cooking needs. The overhead hood block off sight lines throughout the kitchen and the dated dark oak stained millwork and cabinetry reduced light in the kitchen. 2013 was the year our clients decided to more than update their kitchen. The cumbersome center island hood was moved to an outside wall with direct ventilation to the exterior was achieved. Wall oven and baking center wall moved across the room for it’s more infrequent use. And the cooking island was replaced with a island prep center with storage for cookbooks and seating for two for the quick starts to your day. As equal a change but visually more intriguing was this client’s willingness to go from darkly stained oak cabinets to a European door and drawer slab cabinet style and make the lead to a elegantly stained maple species. The aesthetic is enhanced with dark green uba tuba colored natural granite countertops with a color changing glass tile backsplash. The myriad of colors reflective in the back splash is delightful. A natural cork snap together flooring offered a tasteful compliment to the maple cabinetry and is resilient under foot. A few new and repurposed stainless steel appliance complete the package.

Features: Soft close door features and Full extension drawers and rollout accessories, also with “soft close” feature, makes the kitchen very user friendly. Custom Maple Cabinetry with European style slab doors and drawers, Natural Granite countertops, glass tile backsplashes and eco-friendly cork flooring.

St. Louis Park, Kitchen remodel.  A quaint 1 ½ story cape cod had the traditional divisions between kitchen, dining and living room.  Narrow arched doorways led from the living room into each space and was the impetus for the open archways that were designed into the concept.   The two major access from living room into dining & kitchen were widened to open up to the main level.  Traditional flat panel door style in a natural cherry finish were chosen as the cabinetry style.   Full extension drawers with soft close drawer and door features offer a functionality to the space not present before.  Natural granite countertops in opalescence color with honey onyx natural stone backsplash offer a classic compliment to their cabinet hardware and appliance selections.

Features:  Full extension drawers and rollout accessories, all with “soft close” feature, makes the kitchen very user friendly.  Custom Cherry Cabinetry, Natural Granite countertops, stone tile backsplashes and seamlessly patched oak flooring.

Plymouth, Kitchen remodel. After sending the kids off to college these homeowners were ready to treat their rambler and themselves to some better home cooking. Hardwood flooring was extended from the living space into the kitchen to give that harmonious feeling of the kitchen being part of the whole. The island granite selection was a bit more of a vibrant pattern and color to really cap off a beautiful transformation.

Features: Soft close door features and full extension drawers and rollout accessories allow for ergonomic maximum use, makes the kitchen very user friendly.  Custom Cherry Cabinetry with unique stepped detailing, Natural Granite countertops, porcelain backsplashes for working parts of the kitchen and elegant glass tile backsplashes and beverage counter.
